Herb Alpert was an artist. Jerry Moss was a business man. When the corporate record companies of the 60s stifled their creativity, they longed for a label that focused on the artist; so A&M Records was born. What began out of a garage grew to include such mega artists as Joe Cocker, Cat Stevens, and Carole King. Herb and Jerry built the creative environment they had always dreamed of.
At the start of the 70s, Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss saw the music business transform. Rock was taking over; so they evolved with the times and signed The Police, Styx, Supertramp, and Janet Jackson. The genres changed, but the same artist-focused mantra remained. After selling the company in 1989, Herb and Jerry look back on their career and friendship.
