After Judge Oliver Garland is found dead in his home, his three adult children, Addison, Mariah, and Tal, gather for the funeral. Shocked by her father’s sudden passing, Mariah begins questioning if foul play was involved. Tal gets a surprise visit from the nefarious Jack Ziegler questioning him about “the arrangements” his father left for him. In 2007, Judge Garland begins his confirmation hearing to the Supreme Court.
Two years after his shock announcement, The Judge contemplates his next career move. Discovering that another person close to their family has been murdered, Mariah’s suspicions around her father’s passing grow further. Tal continues to question his wife Kimmer’s loyalty in their marriage.
Tal’s paranoia grows following his mysterious run-in with Agent McDermott. Mariah’s investigation into her father’s death has her reminiscing on her career as a Pulitzer award-winning journalist. In 2010, Mariah turns to her father as she questions her future with Howard while her career hangs in the balance.
Tal enlists the help of his colleague to track Kimmer’s whereabouts. Furthering their investigation, Tal and Mariah look to an old friend of The Judge for answers. Back in 2017, The Judge confides in his son, Addison.
Stuck on a clue that The Judge left behind, Tal turns to his father’s old chess buddy for help. Mariah seeks the help of an old colleague to dig up information on Jack Ziegler. In 1997, The Judge accompanies Tal as he competes in a chess tournament.
Tal’s distractedness and frustrations lead to an unexpected outburst that threatens his career and his marriage. Mariah uses her husband to chase a new lead. In 2015, The Judge and his wife receive a veiled threat that leaves Tal confused.
