The Wonders

Gelsomina is the designated heir of the strange, secluded kingdom that her father constructed around them to protect his family from “the end of the world.” To her father, a male heir would have been better, of course, but Gelsomina is strong and determined and what's more, she has a special talent for beekeeping and making honey. It's Gelsomina that retrieves the swarms from the trees, who organizes the honey extraction, and she is the one that carries the hives.Then, the strict rules that hold the family together begin to break: in part due to the arrival of Martin, a German boy on a youth rehabilitation program; and in part due to the local community’s participation in a TV competition for big prizes “Village Wonders,” hosted by the mysterious Milly Catena (Monica Bellucci, from "The Matrix Revolutions," "Malena," and "Irreversible"). Winner of the Grand Prize Jury Award at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival.
