Filmed over the course of a year, THE CHOCOLATE FARMER bears intimate witness to one man's struggle with the forces of globalization. In a remote corner of southern Belize, Eladio Pop organically farms cacao in the tradition of his Mayan ancestors. Now faced with the realities of a cash economy and his children's desire to participate in the modern world, Eladio tells a cautionary tale and bares his soul to remind us of the precarious balance between human beings and the environment. This film adds a unique perspective to the debate around green politics and challenges our deeply held assumptions about progress.
