Respiro

On Lampedusa, an island near western Sicily, Grazia (Valeria Golino) is a mother of three who spends suffocating days packing fish while her husband, Pietro (Vincenzo Amato), is at sea. Affectionate, vibrant and full of life, Grazia can also be unpredictable and stormy. Though her free-spirited attitude causes talk in the village, Pietro lovingly stands by her. But as Grazia's behavior becomes more reckless, even the powerful shield of her family's love can't protect her. Her husband's relatives become convinced that she is seriously unstable and decide she needs medical treatment in Milan. But Grazia will have no part of this, and her son Pasquale (Francesco Casisa), the one person who understands his mother best, vows to do whatever it takes to keep his mother at home.
