The Magnificent Warriors

S1 E10: To save the fleet from starvation, Commander Adama finds himself trapped into a compromising courtship with a woman from his past; and a fast-dealing card game leaves Starbuck the unwilling sheriff in a rugged farming community where he is forced to defend the inhabitants against vicious, pig-like creatures called Borays, who have killed all previous sheriffs. When a food crisis strikes in "The Magnificent Warriors" episode, Commander Adama decides to trade machinery for seed with colonists on a nearby planet. Unfortunately, the only exchangeable equipment belongs to the Commander's childhood sweetheart. Determined to rekindle an old flame, the woman trades her machinery for Adama's affections. After launching a trading party to Serenity, a rural human colony terrorized by a band of boar-like brutes, Adama and his men soon fall prey to the crafty farmers. By stealing the Galactica’s barter and conning Starbuck into the short-lived occupation of sheriff, the Serenity citizens deviously enlist the battlestar warriors in their fight against the animal-like marauders.
