The Flying Nun
A Fish Story
S1 E19:
Sister Sixto's Uncle Gus has named his fishing boat for his patron, St. Rose of Lima. For years, Gus has had a friendly feud with Lily, who owns a fish store. Gus and Lily find it increasingly difficult to meet the competition of the big companies, who use airplanes and sonar to spot fish. Lily wants Gus to come and work for her but he refuses. Lily persuades Mr. Ogden to extend her credit, while Sister Sixto and Sister Jacqueline persuade Sister Bertrille to lead Gus to good fishing grounds. Gus sees Sister Bertrille in a white blur overhead and is sure Santa Rosa has come to help him. He takes record catches and repays his $1600 debt to Lily. Then Mother Superior, feeling it unseemly, orders Sister Bertrille to stop her fish spotting. Gus can't take a fish and thinks his patron saint is displeased. Mother Superior turns aside Sister Bertrille's plea and suggests she help Gus to adjust to the modern world. He refuses to go to work for Lily until he hears she is holding off her creditors with a shotgun. Rushing to Lily's side, he sends them sprawling and settles her debts by giving up his boat. Lily and Gus become partners in marriage, as well as in business. Later, Sister Bertrille finds them arguing whose name should be first on their store sign.
