Polly Wants a Crack in the Head
Passing a waterfront bar, Sr. Bertrille and Sr. Jacqueline hear what seems to be a child in danger. Entering, they find the owner, Rose Dolan, throttling Junior, a parrot with a salty vocabulary. Sr. Bertrille rescues him and hopes to find him a new home, since pets are forbidden at the convent. All efforts to place Junior are foiled by his bad behavior, and the sisters are forced to hide him in the convent. Junior gives them away by bawling bar-room ditties. Led by the children's laughter, Rev. Mother finds Junior sounding off and orders Sister Bertrille to find him a new home. Srs. Bertrille, Jacqueline, and Sixto spend the night regenerating Junior. By morning the bird has grudgingly learned to pray. To win over Rev. Mother, Sr. Bertrille asks Sr. Jacqueline to bring her where the new Junior is reciting prayers to the rapt children. He ruins the plan by addressing Rev. Mother as "Hi, sweetie" and is banished for good. Sr. Bertrille persuades Carlos Ramirez to adopt him but Junior spoils a romantic interlude with Cecilia with rude remarks. He escapes Carlos' wrath by flying out of the window. Meanwhile, Rose comes to the convent for Junior. Finding him gone, she prays for his safe return. Sr. Bertrille takes off and finds Junior in the jungle. Thankful, Rose turns over a new leaf. Junior joins the children in prayer, but brakes off to greet Rev. Mother with "Hi, sweetie." Resigned, she replies, "Hi, sweetie."
