Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon star in this improvised comedy about two actors on a culinary tour of the north of England. Steve is commissioned to review half a dozen restaurants for a Sunday newspaper and plans the trip with his American girlfriend - only to face the prospect of a week of meals-for-one after they separate. So Steve calls old friend Rob to accompany him, and the pair find themselves debating the big questions of life over a series of delightful dishes. They begin their Trip at the Inn at Whitewell, in the beautiful Trough of Bowland, where a mix-up on the booking means they have to share a room.
Steve and Rob enjoy a taster menu at L'enclume in the Cumbrian village of Cartmel as they continue their culinary tour of the north of England, reviewing restaurants for a Sunday newspaper.
Continuing their journey of the north of England, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon travel to Holbeck Ghyll; a luxury country house hotel in the lake district, where they once again sit down to eat together and ponder their place in the world.
Next stop is Hipping Hall, a 17th century house, steeped in history and now host to Steve and Rob. We learn more about the pair as they dine together for the fourth time on their culinary tour of the north.
As their journey nears its end, Steve and Rob again reflect on their lives, careers and relationships over the dinner table - this time at The Yorke Arms in Yorkshire's Nidderdale valley.
The last stop on Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon's tour of northern restaurants is The Angel Inn at Hetton, where they once again mull over life’s big questions and draw the trip to a poignant close.
