The Last Goodbye to Mama
In the late 1980s, Ding Bi Yun (Dong Jie) is a single mother struggling against poverty and trying to raise her infant son in a small town in China’s Jiangsu Province. Life is a constant struggle as she tries to make ends meet financially and attempts to keep her son on the straight and narrow path with his school and emotional growth. She falls for a man, but is then dismayed when he must travel abroad, leaving both her and her son alone. She battles on and eventually her son, Ding Xiao Jun (Yin Fang), wins admission to a big-city university. But when Ding Xiao Jun is approached by talent scouts, he thinks he may be able to begin his career as an entertainer or model in Japan. That plan comes to naught, however, and Ding Xiao Jun is left destitute. Once again, his mother comes to the rescue, helping him return to his studies. In 2010, he has graduated and has found love in the big city. He is about to launch his career as a media professional and propose to his girlfriend when he learns that his mother has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. He feels like he has no choice but to return to his hometown to care for her in her final days… This drama series was based on a novel named “99 Things With My Mom” by the author Bu Liang Sheng. “The Last Goodbye to Mama” is a 2021 Chinese drama series that was directed by Cao Dun and Jing Chong.
