Over the arc of World War II, a second secret battle rages between competing powers to be the first to develop nuclear weapons. In Nazi Germany, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Werner Heisenberg is tasked with developing the atomic bomb. To this end, Heisenberg requires heavy water (deuterium oxide), but it is only produced by the industrial manufacturer Norsk Hydro in Nazi-occupied Vemork, Norway. To prevent the Nazis from developing atomic weapons, Norwegian chemistry professor and military intelligence officer Major Leif Tronstad leads Operation Grouse which aims to destroy the heavy water plant at Vemork before it is too late.
