Eight of the best home cooks from across the United States gather in the barn to share their most treasured recipes. For their first challenge, they have 60 minutes to introduce themselves to the Judges with a recipe that defines who they are as a home cook. Then in the second round, the home cooks will have 60 minutes to prepare a dish they feel represents the region of the US they call home.
In the second week of the competition, it’s all about secret and staple ingredients, as the home cooks prepare their favorite go-to dishes. Their first recipe will include their secret weapon ingredients; the second will showcase their favorite grain in a dish that best represents their food story and heritage.
Love is in the air. The home cooks have 60 minutes to prepare their favorite comfort food remedies. Then for the second round, the home cooks are challenged to make a special recipe that they serve to warm their loved ones’ hearts.
The home cooks’ baking skills are put on display. In the first round, the home cooks have 60 minutes to prepare their favorite baked breakfast item. In the second round, the home cooks have 75 minutes to prepare their favorite bake sale treats to serve at the 2nd Great American Recipe Bake Sale.

In the first round, the home cooks have 60 minutes to prepare a memorable dish from a special event in their lives. Then, in the second round, the home cooks have 60 minutes to prepare a family-style dish served at their favorite holiday meal.
In week six of competition on The Great American Recipe, the home cooks step outside their comfort zone in two rounds of cooking. In the first round, the home cooks have 60 minutes to put their spin on a fellow home cook’s recipe. In round two, the home cooks have 60 minutes to create a dish inspired by a friend.
