My Kung Fu Girlfriend
Huang Xiao Yu (Dawn Chen) is the 50th-generation head of the ailing Bo Wu martial arts faction. One day, a mysterious woman named Bo Ye (Pu Tao) shows up at her academy. It turns out that Bo Ye is a video game character who – after doing battle with a supervillain called Nightmare – has been sucked into a portal that leads her into the “real” world. But she is visible only to Huang Xiao Yu, and even has the power to enter the body of the Bo Wu faction leader. When the Bo Wu faction enters a martial arts contest organized by the same video game’s distributor, Huang Xiao Yu accidentally crosses paths with Yuan Fan (Gao Mao Tong), a famous actor who has been paid to endorse the game and guest judge the contest. Yuan Fan thinks Huang Xiao Yu is one of his fans and gives her a drink that an assistant had given him before sending her on her way. But it turns out that the drink was actually poisoned – and was intended to harm Yuan Fan. Fortunately, Bo Ye manages to use her powers to save Huang Xiao Yu after the latter takes a swig from the drink. And to cover up for what is becoming an embarrassing incident for Yuan Fan, the star’s agency arranges to hire Huang Xiao Yu as his bodyguard. But other characters from the same game have also entered the mortal realm – making life for Huang Xiao Yu, Bo Ye, and Yuan Fan all the more complicated! Could an unlikely romance spark between the star and his new “bodyguard?” And will Bo Ye ever find a way back to her “real” world? “My Kung Fu Girlfriend” is a 2022 Chinese drama series that was directed by Ma Shi Ge.
