Meet My Abuela

In the series premiere, Alyssa and her boyfriend Kano met and fell in love while studying at the University of Tampa. In order for their relationship to continue, Alyssa tells Kano that he must win over her Abuela, Maria del Carmen, and pass the infamous "evil eye" test. Kano, however, is terrified of how it will pan out.

After eight years of dating, Michael popped the question to Alexia and she said yes. The couple now find themselves vying for the blessing of Mercedes, Alexia's non-English speaking Abuela, who cherishes her family's Cuban heritage and culture above all else. Will Michael be able to impress Mercedes despite the language barrier?

After a few months of dating, Claudia and Daniel are very much in love. They hope to convince Floriana, Claudia's 91-year-old Abuela, that they've found true love together. However, Claudia is apprehensive on what her Abuela will think of Daniel as a soccer player. Will they be able to win Floriana's approval after a night out on the town salsa dancing?

When Aliyah tells her tough-as-nails Abuela, Nereida, about her friend Devon and how she feels about him romantically, tensions start to rise. On top of that, Aliyah tells Devon that if her Abuela doesn't approve of him, the relationship's over. They take Nereida on a go-kart date to show her that they're ready to take their relationship to the next step.

Ruben and McKenzie were friends long before they started dating each other. Until now, Ruben's Abuela, Joanne, only knew of McKenzie as the close friend of Ruben's sister. Seeking Joanne's approval, Ruben invites her and McKenzie along to a day at Busch Gardens. Will Joanne give them her blessing, or will their relationship be a failure to launch?

Still studying in college, Andrea breaks the news to Maria, her traditional Puerto Rican Abuela, about her plan on moving in with her boyfriend, Darence. She arranges to introduce her Abuela to Darence in an outdoor painting class, but the young couple feels on edge about what Maria will think of their plans together.
