1956: Due to improper behavior, the young Monika Schöllack has just been dismissed from her household management school. Ashamed of herself, she returns to Berlin to her mother Caterina and her sisters Helga and Eva.
In front of the dance school, Monika meets a slightly deranged-looking gentleman. He turns out to be Simon Crohn and claims that his family had owned the Galant Dance School until 1936. Monika's curiosity is piqued.
Monika's growing self-assurance helps her to have the courage to introduce her own rock 'n' roll course in the dance school, against her mother's will. The course is a total success, which brings many new enrolments with it.
It's 1957 in Berlin when Monika, who is in the final stages of pregnancy, reaches the apartment of the Schöllacks. She has nowhere to live and wants to take refuge in her former home, but her mother Caterina turns her away.
Monika and Joachim start to have serious problems when Monika has a miscarriage and Joachim blames himself. Together with Freddy, Monika throws herself into composing a song for Hannelore Lay to sing at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Monika establishes a blues band with Freddy, and their first gigs are a success. It comes as a shock when Eva is found unconscious with a serious head injury in Monika's apartment.
