Dr. Cori Stephen is a rural mixed animal veterinarian tending to the animals of a close-knit community in the woods of central British Columbia. She brings a wealth of knowledge to keeping rural animals healthy, from dogs to horses to domestic pigs with toothaches. In Saskatoon, Dr. Allison Hay is learning the ropes of running a busy urban clinic while finding the time to mend a mangled fox.

Meet Dr. Emma Jackson, a new vet overcoming butterflies on her first day of volunteering at one of Calgary’s busiest animal rescue shelters. From a cat spay to dressing up guinea pigs, Dr. Emma is ready to put her knowledge to good use for all kinds of cases. Over in Saskatoon, Dr. Allison Hay’s love for cats shines through as she gently provides the best care for an aging cat with a broken leg.

Dr. Cori takes on her least favorite task—pregnancy testing Dandelion the Jersey cow for a local homesteading family. It’s a messy job, and finding an answer isn’t as easy as expected! Meanwhile, Dr. Allison treats an orange cat with a persistent skin condition and finds the power of music has an unexpected result with a dog waiting for surgery.

Dr. Emma and shelter director Amy are on a road trip to meet up with Siksika Nation bylaw officers with the mission to help stray dogs reported by the community get checked out and fostered before winter arrives. In Saskatoon, Dr. Allison has her hands full with a litter full of little puppies with sharp teeth and examines a worrying lump on an older dog with a big personality.

Dr. Cori takes extra safety precautions with Rocky the German Shepherd, who’s in for an ear check. Then, an after-hours emergency sees Dr. Cori tap into her wealth of experience to bring Ranger, an ailing cat, back from a life-or-death situation. In Saskatoon, a lost kitty steals the heart of Allison and her crew.

Dr. Allison’s clinic is full of nerves and worry as she and her staff bring in their own animals for health concerns. Dr. Emma picks up some tips for working with small companion animals from Calgary’s top exotic vet specialist. Emma goes from examining pet bunnies to visiting her hometown near Saddle Lake Cree Nation for a family visit.
