Sheriff Vernon Bourgeois is the most powerful man in town--overseeing the investigation of every strange and eerie occurrence in the region. In this episode, his deputies deal with a wide range of cases you'll only see in Cajun country: Deputy Melissa "Catfish" Quintal, originally from Massachusetts, responds to the report of a nighttime voodoo ritual taking place in abandoned shed deep in the bayou; Deputy Paul "Highlights" Thibodeaux delves into a case of an ornery citizen who plans to take justice into his own hands after his air conditioner was snitched during a heat wave, and Sheriff Bourgeois and his entire team are on the hunt for an elusive drug dealer known as "Jesse James" that takes them all into the creepy, creature-infested swamps.
In Southern Louisiana, alligators are just a part of everyday life. When a vicious alligator attacks a family's dog, Deputy Melissa "Catfish" Quintal must call in the services of her alligator hunter boyfriend, Jacob Lirette, known as the "Gator Man", to handle the threat. The sheriff's office also gets a new lead on a suspect from a major local theft ring, and their hunt takes them on a dramatic chase through the razor-like sugar cane fields. Also, water patrol officers "Funkie Nuts" and "DJ" are sent out in the dead of night to one of the strangest and eeriest bayou calls they've ever seen.
Aboveground crypts in Terrebonne Parish are just part of the landscape, because with frequent flooding, you can't bury bodies in the ground. These tombs are vulnerable to vandalism and theft. In this episode, Deputy Paul "Highlights" Thibodeaux responds to a cemetery caretaker's complaint of several grave robberies. It turns out that multiple crypts were opened and the corpses disturbed; a skull seems to be missing along with a necklace. The entire department is on high alert to catch these ruthless thieves, and extra night patrols are set up to monitor the creepy graveyards. Deputy Keith Bergeron and California transplant Deputy Tom Arnold are called to the scene of an eerie disturbance; a "black arts" ritual that might just answer all of the unsettling questions about the grave robbery.
The strangest and eeriest calls on the bayou happen at night, especially when a full moon shines overhead. Detective Terry Daigre has been trying to track down a gang of thieves that are preying on empty camps in the deep bayou, and when Sgt. Dudley "DJ" Authement calls him with a fresh lead on the night of the full moon, it's the first clue that leads to a wild and action-packed manhunt. Also, Deputy Melissa "Catfish" Quintal gets the strangest call of the night when she's dispatched to a horse stable where all of the horses manes and tails have been braided. The distraught woman who called in the complaint believes it's the work of the "Lutin," a mischievous spirit of an un-baptized baby ghost.
After a violent boating accident, Sheriff Vernon Bourgeois joins forces with multiple agencies to recover a boat, and possibly a body, from the murky depths of the Mississippi waters. Meanwhile, Deputy Keith Bergeron and Sgt. Dudley DJ Authement, both raised on the bayou, head deep into the swamps in the middle of the night to investigate a hair-raising sighting of the legendary Rougarou, the local name for a "shape-shifting swamp monster." When the witness hands over video of the half-man, half-wolf creature prowling the weeds behind his camp, the officers have no choice but to explore the very woods where the mysterious beast disappeared. The next morning, Deputy Bergeron puts two and two together when he is called to the scene of a mutilated calf near where the Cajun swamp monster vanished.
The rich culture of Southern Louisiana is steeped with Cajun folklore and superstition. Weeks earlier, Deputy Tom Arnold was cursed by a suspect, and this comes to haunt the former California native; he must face the fact that this voodoo curse is affecting him. After grappling with one mishap after another, Tom seeks the help of a voodoo priestess to see if she can cure him once and for all. Down the bayou, a "Hatfields and McCoys" type dispute between local shrimpers escalates out of control. Lt. Merlin Daigle and Sgt. Dudley "DJ" Authement struggle to piece together the truth from two very different sides of the story. When one of the shrimper's boats catches fire that same evening, Lt. Daigle must determine whether it's a case of retaliation or if the shrimper is dealing with a curse of his own.
