Tom Joyner
Tom Joyner is a radio personality and host. Prior to moving to Chicago, Joyner worked at radio stations in Dallas, Memphis and St. Louis. Once in Chicago he was host of a morning show and gained followers when he became host of the syndicate television news magazine show "Ebony/Jet Celebrity Showcase." For several years, Joyner traveled to be able to work in both Chicago and Dallas. In 1994, Joyner hosted "The Tom Joyner Morning Show," a nationally syndicated radio show discussing daily headlines and sports with comedians and commentators. The show ran until his retirement in 2019. In Fall 2005, Joyner hosted "The Tom Joyner Show," a late night television variety show featuring musical guests and sketch comedy. Production costs were high for this music-centered show and it lasted only until May 2006. His popularity allowed him to become a philanthropist and start The Tom Joyner Foundation, a mission that supports historically black colleges and universities. Tom Joyner was inducted into The Nation Radio Hall of Fame in 1998 and awarded the Humanitarian Award at the 2015 BET Awards.
