Timothy Patrick Quill

Tim Quill was an American film and TV actor who was best known for his role as army private Joe Beletsky in the acclaimed 1987 Vietnam War drama "Hamburger Hill" (1987). Born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, Quill always knew he wanted to become an actor. In his early 20s he moved to New York City and quickly began his training at the esteemed William Esper Acting Studio. Quill was a standout student in the class, and within a few years he had managed to land an acting agent in New York. Quill's agent began sending the young actor out to various auditions, including one for a gritty drama about one of the bloodiest battles during the Vietnam War. The movie was "Hamburger Hill" and Quill would eventually make his screen acting debut in the film as Pvt. Joe Beletsky. After the success of the film, Quill's acting career quickly took off. Over the next two years he appeared in "Listen to Me" (1989), "Staying Together" (1989), and "Next of Kin" (1989), and continued acting steadily in both films and TV shows throughout the 90s. Throughout the 90s Quill appeared in some of the most popular shows on TV, including "NYPD Blue" (ABC, 1993-2005), "ER" (NBC, 1994-2009), and "JAG" (NBC/CBS, 1995-2005), the latter of which was also Quill's first recurring TV role. Quill continued landing bit parts on TV shows well into the 2000s, with the occasional film role here and there. In 2005 he appeared in the comedy-horror film "2001 Maniacs," and was also a supporting character in the 2012 Ben Affleck-directed historical drama "Argo," which went on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture. Quill's acting output slowed after his appearance in "Argo." He nabbed a guest spot on Shonda Rhimes' "Scandal" (ABC, 2012-18) in 2016, which would be his final screen acting role. After a notable acting career that included over two dozen film and TV roles, Tim Quill passed away form cancer on September 25, 2017 at his home in Monmouth, New Jersey. He was 54.
