Teddy Geiger
Originally a solo artist and teen-friendly pop star, Teddy Geiger went onto greater success as a songwriter and producer for other artists, working on major hits for Shawn Mendes and album tracks for One Direction, Maroon 5, James Blunt and others. Raised in Buffalo NY, Geiger first performed in the regional rock band Faction. Her first national exposure was on a VH1 reality series, "In Search of the Partridge Family" (VH1 2004) in which she competed for David Cassidy's old role of Keith on a reboot (ultimately unsuccessful) on the '70s TV series. She didn't win, but Emma Stone got the role of Laurie; she and Geiger would later be back in touch. Her exposure on the series led to Geiger's opening a 2005 tour for Hilary Duff, though she hadn't yet released any music. The following year brought her debut single, "For You I Will (Confidence)," a pop ballad inspired by a high-school crush; the video featured Laguna Beach star Kristin Cavallari as the love interest. It appeared on her debut album Underage Thinking which went Top Ten and led to more mainstream exposure. Hermovie debut was the 2008 comedy "The Rocker" which also featured Emma Stone; the two were romantically linked around that time. Geiger's second album, 2013's The Last Fears was partly recorded in Nashville and aimed for a more grown-up sound. Geiger's first hit collaborations were with Tiesto on 2013's "Love & Run," a worldwide dance hit; and tracks on two consecutive albums (Midnight Memories and Four) by One Direction. But his greatest success was with Shawn Mendes, for whom she cowrote and coproduced the Number One hit "Stitches" and three other tracks on her two platinum albums, Handwritten and Illuminate. Another Geiger cowrite, "Who I Am," appeared on Maroon 5's 2017 album Red Pill Blues. During October 2017, a fan on Instagram asked Geiger why she was looking different lately. She responded, "because u asked nicely," that she was transitioning to a woman and had begun hormone replacement therapy. This was met with an overwhelmingly response from fans, including Shawn Mendes who responded with a string of heart emojis. Geiger was at the time co-writing and producing Mendes' self-titled 2018 album.
