Taurean Blacque

Born Herbert Middleton, Jr., Taurean Blacque studied at the New Federal Theater in New York City, which was founded to provide acting opportunities for minorities and women. The actor started finding success early, with numerous guest appearances on popular sitcoms of the late 1970s. He made appearances on shows like "What's Happening! !," "Sanford and Son," "The Bob Newhart Show," "Good Times," and "Taxi." In 1981, he landed a prominent role on the new police procedural "Hill Street Blues." Throughout 1987, Blacque was a regular face on the popular show as Detective Neal Washington. In 1982 he was recognized for his work with an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. During his time on "Hill Street Blues," Blacque continued to act on stage, and following the end of the show, he relocated to Atlanta, where he focused on theatrical work, with occasional film and television appearances. Taurean Blacque died on July 21, 2022 in Atlanta, GA at the age of 81.
