Susan Wooldridge

Though many first discovered actor Susan Wooldridge from her breakout role in the acclaimed historical mini-series "The Jewel in the Crown" (PBS, 1984), the production didn't change her status as an actor overnight. Immediately after shooting the series, Wooldridge suffered a brief lull in job opportunities. It was so dire that on the very night that she sat down to watch the first episode, a repo man came knocking on her door hoping to repossess her television. Born in London to actor Margaretta Scott and composer John Wooldridge, Wooldridge followed in her mother's footsteps, attending L'Ecole Jacques Lecoq in Paris to study acting. Her first TV role came with an appearance on the soap opera "Emmerdale Farm" (YTV, 1972-) in 1972. She soon landed the role of Mary Louise on the historical mini-series "Napoleon and Love" (PBS, 1974). After "The Jewel in the Crown" aired in 1984, Wooldridge's stock went up considerably. She would work steadily from that moment forward, memorably starring in the mini-series "Underworld" (Channel 4, 1997) and co-starring with Michelle Yeoh in the historical drama "The Lady." In 2017, American audiences became more familiar with Wooldridge when she took on the role of the Nurse on "Still Star-Crossed" (ABC, 2017-), a Shonda Rhimes-produced drama based on the characters from "Romeo and Juliet."
