Sugarland

Sugarland became one of the biggest duos in country music in the 2000s, but by the time they reached their peak of popularity, many people had forgotten that they actually started out as a trio. Kristian Bush and Kristen Hall, both of whom had previously released records on their own as solo singer/songwriters, started Sugarland in Atlanta, Georgia in 2002. By the time they scored a deal with Mercury Nashville two years later, they had brought aboard lead singer Jennifer Nettles, who had previously pursued a solo career as well. The trio released its debut album, Twice the Speed of Life, in 2004. Aided by the huge hit single "Baby Girl," the album became a huge success, eventually achieving triple Platinum status. The album yielded two additional Top 10 country singles: "Something More" and "Just Might (Make Me Believe)." But soon after its success, Hall left Sugarland. Three years later she sued her former bandmates for not living up to an alleged financial agreement after her departure. The suit was settled out of court in 2010. Hall's absence didn't impede Sugarland's success though. Their second album, 2006's Enjoy the Ride did just as well as its predecessor, and gave Sugarland two No. 1 country hits, "Want To" and "Settlin'." The same year, their profile was aided by the Bon Jovi/Jennifer Nettles duet "Who Says You Can't Go Home" hitting the top spot as well. Sugarland's 2008 album, Love on the Inside, hit No. 1 on both the country and pop charts and brought three more No. 1 country hits: "All I Want to Do," "Already Gone," and "It Happens." The following year, the duo released a Christmas album, Gold and Green. In 2010 the Platinum-selling The Incredible Machine appeared, hitting the pop and country top spots once more and containing the group's biggest-selling single, the double-Platinum "Stuck Like Glue." Sugarland took a break between 2012 and 2016, with both Bush and Nettles making solo records. But they reunited on a new label, Big Machine, for 2018's Bigger, which included "Babe," a Top 10 collaboration with new labelmate Taylor Swift.
