Steve Mackey

Initially misplaced as a rock guitarist, Steve Mackey (b. 1956) went on to become a freestyle skier, a career he abandoned in favor of early music, the lute and music administration. Returning to studies with electric guitar, he began composing serious contemporary pieces for chamber ensembles and orchestras, joining the faculty of Princeton University as a Professor of Music. His compositions and arrangements have been performed by the Chicago Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Kronos Quartet, Marimolin and many others. He has recorded with the Kronos Quartet and collaborated with Paul Lansky, who provided the computer-based rhythm performance for "Dancetracks" on Mackey's 1996 album Lost & Found. ~ Steven McDonald, Rovi
