Spencer Brown
Spencer Brown, aka Spencer Bruno, is a progressive house producer and DJ based in San Francisco. With early support from the likes of Avicii and Above & Beyond, he released his 2014 debut EP with the former's label and his 2018 debut album on the latter's Anjunabeats.
Bruno started drumming as a toddler, and later taught himself guitar, piano, and bass, among other instruments. He DJ'ed for the first time in the fifth grade and was soon in demand for middle-schoolers' birthday parties. As a senior in high school, he sent a track to Avicii's manager, got a response, and after developing his sound for a couple of years, he made his live debut at the Hollywood Bowl with Avicii in 2013. Avicii's Le7els Records released his Spencer Brown debut, the Chalice/Double Down EP, in 2014. Among a handful of remixes of acts including Cazzette and HNNY, his early tracks also included the self-released "Jaboom/Mirek" and 2015's "Lockout." Bruno graduated from Duke University in 2016, having majored in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
The Chalice EP eventually came to the attention of Above & Beyond, who signed Brown to their Anjunabeats label, which released the Downpour EP, Embarcadero EP, and Vernal EP, all in 2017. Featuring "No Going Back," a collaboration with Alpha 9, the full-length Illusion of Perfection arrived on Anjunabeats in 2018. Brown supported the album with his first headlining tour, which made stops in North America, Europe, and Australia. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
