Sonya Salomaa

Instead of acting, Canadian-born Sonya Salomaa originally intended to have a career in forestry, attending the University of Northern British Columbia, but caught the acting bug the summer before her final year. Since her change of heart, she has become an accomplished actress in both film and television. Salomaa is perhaps best known for her roles as May Kandinski from 2005 to 2006 on "The Collector" and as Laura Nelson on "The Guard" from 2008 to 2009, both Canadian television series. "The Collector" is about a man who pledges his soul to the devil for love, serving as a collector of other souls for eternity. She was awarded two Leo Awards for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her work on the series. "The Guard" follows the daily lives and rescues of members of the coast guard. Her first major film role came in 2003 with the action movie "Firefight" as Rachel. The 2006 Canadian film "Black Eyed Dog" showcased her musical abilities, playing the lead role of Betty, a failed musician. She also appeared on the soundtrack to "Black Eyed Dog," writing the lyrics to and performing the song "Lost Right Now." She has starred in popular American television series including "Covert Affairs" and "Supernatural."
