Shakira Barrera

American actress Shakira Barrera took a leap into the Hollywood landscape as one of the 1980s-era female wrestlers in "GLOW" (Netflix, 2017-). A New Jersey native, the actress moved to Los Angeles after graduating from Rutgers University. A small part on "Grey's Anatomy" (ABC, 2005-) was followed by a role in the "The Fast and the Furious" film parody "Superfast!" (2015). She then became a regular contributor on the reality show "Freak Out" (ABC Family, 2014-15) as one of the actors who assisted with the elaborate pranks that were staged by participants on their unsuspecting friends and family. She went on to appear in supporting roles on the teen dramas "Faking It" (MTV, 2014-16) and "East Los High" (Hulu, 2013-). Her film career received a boost when she joined James Franco in Jenna Cavelle's "Blood Heist" (2017) playing one of a group of siblings hoping to pull off a robbery to finance an independent film. She also appeared as part of the cast of the superhero comedy web series "High & Mighty" (2017), which screened at the Sundance Film Festival. Her resume continued to expand as Mario Van Peebles cast the actress in his action film "Armed" (2018) and she filmed a guest appearance on "Lethal Weapon" (FOX, 2016-) playing the fiancée of Thomas Lennon's Leo Getz. Barrera joined Netflix's hit "GLOW" as a series regular for the show's second season. She played Yolanda (or Yo-Yo) a former stripper and proud lesbian who decides to give wrestling a try.
