Scott McGillivray
Scott McGillivray was a Canadian businessman, real estate investor and reality TV star who hosted the popular series "Income Property" (HGTV, 2009-2016). Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, McGillivray's interest in real estate investment began in his early 20s. He purchased his very first piece of real estate at 21, which he was quickly able to renovate and turn into a profit. McGillivray quickly found that he enjoyed buying rental properties and renting them out, and by his late-20s he had bought several more rental properties in both Canada and the United States. Before long McGillivray was being recognized by TV producers for his deftness as a real estate investor, and in 2008 he was given his own show on Canada's HGTV, "Income Property." The series, which was launched on America's HGTV the following year, followed McGillivray as he gave homeowners advice on how to turn their homes into rental units that turn a profit. The show was a major success and ran on HGTV in the United States from 2009-2016. In addition to hosting "Income Property," McGillivray also served as a judge on the HGTV game show's "All American Handyman" (HGTV, 2010-12) and "Flipping the Block" (2014). In the early 2010s he also began authoring books on real estate investment, including The Investors Tool Kit (2011) and How to Add Value to Your Home (2014). As of early 2018 McGillivray continued to run his ever expanding real estate empire on a day-to-day basis, while continuing to offer his sage advice on real estate investment by writing magazine articles, authoring books, and with frequent appearances on television shows both in the United States and Canada.
