As Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) treats a bleeding teenage girl, he discovers she's just given birth, sparking a frantic search for her abandoned baby. When the details of the teen's troubled past emerge, Ethan finds himself at odds with pediatrician Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and hospital administrator Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) as they're forced to make some difficult decisions about the teen's future. Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) treats a hypochondriac with chest pains while struggling to navigate his overbearing wife. Meanwhile, med student Sarah Reese (Rachel DiPillo) and psychiatrist Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) treat a patient suffering from dementia, only to discover she may not have dementia at all.

Nurse Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) gets arrested for refusing to violate hospital policy and draw blood from a suspected DUI patient without his consent. Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) discusses with his lawyer the severity of the pending lawsuit against him. Elsewhere, Dr. Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) deal with a single mother and her 6-month old, but when the baby's injuries come into question, concerns are raised. Meanwhile, Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt), who is dealing with some personal issues, and Sarah Reese (Rachel DiPillo) attend to a patient that was hit by a car, but suspicions abound when they dig deeper.

Dr. Rhodes (Colin Donnell) tends to the care of Dr. Downey (guest star Gregg Henry) while Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) is forced to deal with personal issues. April (Yaya DaCosta) bears the brunt of a punch while attending to a disorderly patient, but the incident could actually prove to be a blessing in disguise. Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) discovers Goodwin has a trick up her sleeve and Dr. Manning (Torrey DeVitto) finds her past catching up with her. Sarah's (Rachel DiPillo) graduation day finally arrives, but she remains conflicted about mapping out her career plans for the future. Meanwhile, at the urging of Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt), Dr. Choi (Brian Tee) turns to an unlikely source for help. Marlyne Barrett also stars.

After discovering that a patient's family might have been abusive, Dr. Choi (Brian Tee) and April (Yaya DaCosta) contemplate calling child services. Dr. Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) struggle to see eye to eye in guiding a family who is dealing with their premature baby. Dr. Rhodes (Colin Donnell) is persuaded into preforming a risky surgery on Dr. Bekker's (guest star Norma Kuhling) mentor and world renowned surgeon, Dr. Marvin Jaffrey (guest star Malcolm McDowell). Meanwhile, Dr. Reese (Rachel DiPillo) joins Dr. Charles (Oliver Platt) on a visit to the Cook County jail.

Walker faces some formidable enemies, both internal and external, when a bomb explosion damages his eyes.
