After a number of bad dates, Susan finally meets Dr. Right; some old pictures of Gabrielle turn up on the Internet; Tom is alarmed when his kids come down with chicken pox - because he’s never had it; Bree gets arrested and, after months of silence, Noah Taylor contacts Mike Delfino.

Brennan and Booth are called to the scene of a deadly fire at a D.C. prison to investigate what they believe is the death of Brennan's incarcerated adversary, serial killer Howard Epps, whose body was found burned beyond recognition. But Brennan's examination leads to the chilling realization that the charred body is not Epps', but that of a D.C. fireman Epps killed in order to fake his own death and escape from a maximum security prison amid the commotion of the fire. After paying a visit to Epps' former wife, Caroline, to determine if she has any clue as to his whereabouts, Brennan and Booth leave empty-handed, but are concerned for Caroline's safety with her ex-husband on the loose. Their fears are quickly realized as they get concrete proof that Epps has killed again. As Epps leads Brennan and Booth into a game of cat and mouse, it's clear he is targeting them and the people they're close to, all the while giving them clues they desperately try to decipher before Epps takes another victim. While Cam conducts an autopsy on Epps' latest victim, Booth implores her to break protocol to save time and jump to a later step in the process. Against her better judgment she does, but she is sprayed with a deadly poison and critically injured. As Cam's life hangs in the balance, Booth, Brennan and the rest of the Jeffersonian team race to figure out what deadly substance is killing Cam and determine Epps' whereabouts before Cam becomes his latest victim.

The BAU tries their luck in Atlantic City when the team is called in to investigate a series of ritualistic casino-related murders. Charlie Harper (series star Charlie Sheen) is a well-to-do bachelor with a house at the beach, a Mercedes in the garage and an easy way with women. His casual Malibu lifestyle was interrupted when his tightly wound brother, Alan (series star Jon Cryer), and Alan's young son, Jake (series star Angus T. Jones), came to stay with him a couple of years ago. Complicating matters further are Charlie and Alan's narcissistic, emotionally toxic mother, Evelyn (series star Holland Taylor); Alan's deeply neurotic ex-wife, Judith (series star Marin Hinkle); Charlie's domineering, unapologetically blue-collar housekeeper, Berta (series star Conchata Ferrell--not appearing in this episode); and Rose (series star Melanie Lynskey--not appearing in this episode), a brilliantly manipulative and vaguely crazy neighbor who had a brief fling with Charlie, remains obsessed with him and is determined to stay in his life by whatever means necessary. Despite the complexities of their lives and their own strained relationship, Charlie and Alan have one thing in common: They both love Jake and want what's best for him. As a result, they manage to create a little family unit that promises to make each one of them a better man. After Alan falls off the roof trying to fix the satellite dish, Charlie volunteers to take care of Jake for the weekend. While Charlie initially looks forward to watching his nephew, he quickly realizes that Jake's idea of fun--going out for fast food and renting video games--doesn't quite coincide with his own. Alan finally convinces Charlie that the situation will be more peaceful if Charlie simply agrees to Jake's demands. A power struggle ensues, with Jake initially winning--until he sabotages a potential date for Charlie. Meanwhile, Evelyn insists on arranging a blind date for Alan.
