Ruby Elzy made her mark in the world of entertainment when she worked on the dramatic adaptation "Emperor Jones" (1933) with Paul Robeson. In 1935, she starred in the original Broadway production of Gershwin's "Porgy And Bess," for which she created the character Serena.
