Richard Harrison

As one of the History Channel's top-rated shows during its run, "Pawn Stars" gave millions of viewers an insider's view of the family's interactions with their customers, as well as the personal conflicts that arose due to each member's clashing personalities. As the oldest member of the family, Harrison earned the nicknames "The Old Man" as well as "The Appraiser," because he had the rare ability to assess the value of anything accurately. He also knew how to drive a hard bargain, much to the chagrin of his staff and customers. As "The Old Man," Harrison was the store's hardest-to-please negotiator, his son Rick "The Spotter" was the easygoing appraisal expert, and his grandson Corey "Big Hoss" was often inclined to buy big-ticket items that required the most restoration. Harrison was also tough on one of his employees, Austin "Chumlee" Russell, a fan favorite who had a penchant for buying items that entertained him rather than for their value. As the show gained ratings, the family's popularity also grew. In 2012, the City of Lexington officially made May 29th "Richard Harrison Day;" that same year, he and his family served as grand marshals for the History 300 NASCAR race held in North Carolina.By Candy Cuenco
