Detectives Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Stabler (Christopher Meloni) have the unsavory task of investigating the sensationalized murder and sexual assault of a young boy, and their prime suspect (guest star Stephen Bogardus) is a convicted child molester whose only obsession seems to be collecting stamps. However, even with mounting evidence, one key piece doesn't fit -- but either way, the state is still prepared to cite civil detention as a test case to imprison him again as a likely repeat offender. Richard Belzer, Dann Florek, Michelle Hurd and Dean Winters also star.

Greevey and Logan are out on a routine investigation when a man named Ramos is thrown out of a window. Officers Rennick and Sandoval are already on the scene. Greevey sends them upstairs, gunshots are heard, and Officer Rennick is killed. Greevey and Logan try to retrace the steps of the crime, and subsequently discover that they stumbled onto more than they thought.

When an explosion at a construction site kills a boy, McCoy and Kincaid (Sam Waterston, Jill Hennessy) try to exonerate a demolitions expert wrongly convicted of the crime.

Bradford Mandel is found beaten to death in the courtyard of his apartment building and his partner's baby is missing. The Detectives question Donald Albers (David Pittu), Mandel's partner, who is devastated after his 18-month-old, adopted son Dylan was taken from the scene of the crime. Children's Services alerts detectives that Dylan's birth mother, Celia Goddard (Catherine Kellner), was a drug addict and signed off on the adoption before she entered rehab, over a year before the murder.

Finn (Julianne Nicholson) gets dragged into a tragic shaken baby case and the decision to pull life support from the infant. Against direct orders from his boss, Potter (Jordan Bridges) does not settle a case but wins the case anyway; Desmond (J. August Richards) continues his undefeated winning streak at work and has a one night stand with a woman who works at the courthouse, and Steele (Anson Mount) cancels a date with Rossi (Milena Govich) and gets intimate with Cabot (Stephanie March), right before she makes a stunning announcement. Eric Balfour also stars.
