Prince Edward Earl of Wessex

The youngest of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip's four children, Prince Edward Mountbatten-Windsor was born in Buckingham Palace. Never in direct line for the throne, Edward was also absolved of many royal duties. After graduating unceremoniously from Cambridge, he famously dropped out of military training, and instead opted for a career in entertainment. Edward didn't completely avoid his royal duties, opening the Commonwealth Games in 1990 in New Zealand and accepting honors on behalf of the royal family. In 1994, he married Sophie Rhys-Jones in a relatively inconspicuous ceremony and became the Earl of Wessex. In the early 2000s Edward became more active as a member of the royal family, accepting a number of awards and appointments both in the UK and Canada. In 2009, Edward shuttered his production company and focused more on royal duties, taking over for his father in a number of instances.
