PnB Rock
Rakim Hasheem Allen, known professionally as PnB Rock, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Though he was emerging as a prominent figure in the world of hip-hop and R&B, his rise was cut short by tragedy. Growing up in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia, PnB Rock began creating his own songs at a young age, drawing inspiration from his life experiences and struggles. His father was murdered when he was three years old. As a teen, he was sent to a detention center for stealing and fighting and, at age 19, he was incarcerated for drug possession. While in prison, PnB Rock wrote his first mixtape, "Real N*gga Bangaz" (2014). He signed a record deal with Atlantic Records and his 2016 single "Selfish" peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 list. PnB Rock's breakthrough year came in 2017 when he dropped his debut studio album, "GTTM: Goin Thru the Motions." The album featured collaborations with prominent artists like Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla Sign, and YFN Lucci. His feature on XXXTentacion's posthumous hit "Changes" in 2018 introduced him to an even broader audience. Continuing his upward trajectory, PnB Rock's sophomore album, "TrapStar Turnt PopStar," arrived in 2019. Tragedy struck on September 12, 2022 when Rakim Hasheem Allen, aka PnB Rock, was shot and killed during a robbery at a restaurant in South Los Angeles. He was 30 years old.
