Paul Darrow

Paul Darrow was born Paul Birkby in Surrey, England. He was a student at Haberdashers' Aske's Boys' School before studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Though he has worked in numerous productions of stage and screen, he is certainly best remembered for his role as Kerr Avon in the late 1970s BBC science fiction series "Blakes 7." He began his career in the late 1960s, appearing on shows like "The Saint," which centers on a thief who robs from the rich and reviled, and "Coronation Street," the U.K.'s longest running soap opera. In the 1970s, he was featured in the mystery mini-series "Murder Must Advertise" and the humorous "The Legend of Robin Hood," a miniseries on which he had the high profile role of the Sheriff of Nottingham. In 1978, Darrow was cast as the tech-savvy Avon on "Blakes 7." Even after "Blakes 7" came to an end in 1981, Darrow came to be a familiar face on British TV, appearing on such hit shows as the iconic time travel series "Doctor Who," the long-running soap opera "Emmerdale Farm," and the irreverent sketch comedy show "Little Britain." Despite a long time passing since the demise of "Blakes 7" Darrow is still a very proud advocate on the sci-fi series and even tried to put a reunion series together, unfortunately to no avail.
