Neil Grayston
Neil Gordon Grayston was born in British Columbia, Canada. He began acting in high school in Port Moody, British Columbia, and shortly after graduation, he launched his acting career on the long-running Canadian crime drama series "Da Vinci's Inquest," where he had a minor role as a serial killer. The actor followed this up with a string of appearances on various Canadian television series, including the teen drama "Edgemont," before he made the leap to American television in 2002 with an appearance on the hit superhero series "Smallville" (The WB, 2001-06; The CW, 2006-2011), based on Superman/Clark Kent's pre-Metropolis life. While Grayston took a number of small parts on American television, he continued to appear on Canadian drama and comedy series. In 2004, Grayston became a recurring character on the quirky "Wonderfalls," centered on Jaye Tyler (Caroline Dhavernas), an underachieving graduate with a philosophy degree, stuck in a dead-end job as a sales clerk at a Niagara Falls gift shop where he communicates with various animal figurines. Grayston played Jaye's co-worker who took every opportunity to boss her around.Grayston scored his breakthrough role on the award-winning Canadian comedy-drama "Godiva's," about an unlikely group of friends who worked together at a bistro in Vancouver's trendy Yaletown district. He played a sous chef who, in the beginning of the series, showed zero interest in women. To amp up his libido, Grayston's character took hormone pills, but the medication resulted in some unwanted side effects that made him less attractive to women. In spite of positive reviews, "Godiva's" went off the air in 2006. Grayston rebounded with a guest starring part-turned-lead role on the cult sci-fi comedy series "Eureka," about scientists living in a fictional community in Oregon. Grayston played Dr. Douglas Fargo, a wacky and accident-prone junior scientist who often found himself the instigator then victim of the disasters that befell their town. Grayston also provided the voice of S.A.R.A.H., the artificial intelligence that powered the bunker home where Sheriff Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson) and his rebellious teen daughter (Jordan Hinson) lived. As the show ratings climbed, so did Grayston's popularity among the sci-fi community that responded favorably to his portrayal of a domineering leader in the show's alternative timeline, but then transformed himself to become a more decisive and likeable character as the series progressed.
