Marycarmen Lopez

Marycarmen Lopez was a TV and film actress who got her start in modeling and eventually broke into the American cultural landscape - with a little help from Oprah Winfrey. Born in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, Lopez first caught the public's attention as a contestant on the 2009 season of the Mexican reality competition series "Nuestra Belleza Latina" (Univision, 2006-). Lopez was that season's first runner up, and soon afterwards acting offers began pouring in. She made her film debut in the Mexican drama "Book of Ruth" (2013), before enjoying a three-episode arc on the horror comedy adaptation "From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series" (El Rey, 2014-). Lopez's big stateside break came in the form of a supporting role on Ava DuVernay's drama series "Queen Sugar" (OWN, 2016-), which was executive produced by Oprah Winfrey. She followed up this role with a total left turn, by appearing in the horror comedy "Tragedy Girls" (2017).
