Mary Beth Hughes

Actress Mary Beth Hughes appeared in a variety of films over the course of her Hollywood career. In 1939, she began appearing in MGM movies. In 1940, she joined 20th Century Fox. She began acting in high school repertory. Hughes's earliest roles were in film, including the Lana Turner drama "Dancing Co-ed" (1939), the dramatic adaptation "The Women" (1939) with Norma Shearer and the adventure "Fast and Furious" (1939) with Franchot Tone. She also appeared in "The Great Profile" (1940), "Four Sons" (1940) with Don Ameche and "Star Dust" (1940) with Linda Darnell. Her film career continued throughout the forties in productions like "The Great American Broadcast" (1941) with Alice Faye, "The Cowboy and the Blonde" (1941) and "Over My Dead Body" (1942). She also appeared in "Orchestra Wives" (1942). Film continued to be her passion as she played roles in "Rimfire" (1949), "Young Man With a Horn" (1950) and the crime flick "Las Vegas Shakedown" (1955) with Dennis O'Keefe. She also appeared in the Sarah Kennedy comedy "The Working Girls" (1974). Hughes was most recently credited in "CEO Exchange (12/01/00)" (PBS, 2000-01). Hughes passed away in August 1995 at the age of 76.
