Marie Brassard

Marie Brassard is a Montreal-based performer who has appeared in various French-Canadian films and worked extensively in theater as an actor and director. Outside of her stage work, Brassard has collaborated with writer/director Robert Lepage, making her screen debut in "Le polygraphe" (1996), a crime drama that she co-wrote with the filmmaker and costar Patrick Goyette. For Lepage's irreverent comedy "Nô" (1998), she portrayed a Japanese woman named Hanako, and she went on to make a rare appearance in an English-language movie, playing the character of French Sue in Michael Winterbottom's period drama "The Claim" (2000). Though Brassard was less active in the cinematic realm during subsequent years, she began turning up in films with more regularity later in the decade, notably contributing supporting parts to Luc Picard's quirky fantasy tale "Babine" (2008) and "Vic and Flo Saw a Bear" (2013), an unconventional drama about two lesbian lovers. Outside of film, Brassard has largely focused on her role as artistic director of the theater company Infrarouge.
