María Celeste Arrarás

María Celeste Arrarás was a Puerto Rican news anchor who went from local Puerto Rican television to become a national news anchor on Univision. Arrarás was born in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, the firstborn child of José Enrique Arrarás, a respected politician, lawyer, and educator, and Astrid Mangual, a homemaker and chemist. Arrarás qualified to compete at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Canada as a swimmer, but had to give up on that goal two weeks before the competition due to illness. She went on to become a Puerto Rican broadcast journalist, best-selling author, and television personality. In 1978, Arrarás left Puerto Rico to attend Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she majored in Communications and graduated with honors. Arrarás was selected for the cover of "Newsweek" magazine, who named her as one of the "20 Most Powerful Women" of the next generation of leaders. Arrarás gained the reputation of being one of the most trusted journalists in the field via her renowned professionalism and experience. Arrarás went on to serve as the host and managing editor of "Al rojo vivo con María Celeste" (2002), a Spanish-language new program airing in the United States and 15 Latin American countries with a peak daily audience of 35 million viewers. Arrarás was also the co-anchor of Telemundo's internationally acclaimed newscast, "Noticiero Telemundo" (1987).
