Mamie Gummer

Mamie Gummer was an American actress born in New York City, New York. The daughter of celebrated actress Meryl Streep and critically acclaimed sculptor Don Gummer, Mamie is one of four children. Her brother Henry Wolfe is a musician, sister Grace an actor (best known for her main role on "Mr. Robot" [USA Network, 2015-]), and sister Louisa a model. Gummer made her acting and film debut at three years old, appearing in her mother's film "Heartburn" in 1986, although she was credited as Natalie Stern to avoid press attention. She attended Northwestern University, where she made her stage debut in a 2003 production of "The Laramie Project." Gummer graduated in 2005, and quickly landed her first adult role in the Richard Gere film "The Hoax" (2006). The same year, she appeared as a Starbucks barista in a deleted scene from "The Devil Wears Prada," the second of four acting appearances alongside her mother. Gummer also played the younger version of Streep's character in "Evening" (2007), before making her television debut in the "John Adams" miniseries (HBO, 2008). She landed a role in Ang Lee's "Taking Woodstock" (2009) and starred in John Carpenter's "The Ward" (2010); as of 2018, it is the last film Carpenter had directed. Gummer also began a recurring role on "The Good Wife" (CBS, 2009-2016) as Nancy Crozier in 2010, which she would return for through 2015. In 2011, Gummer married actor Benjamin Walker, best known for his starring role in "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" (2012). She starred as the titular character in her own TV show, "Emily Owens, M.D." (The CW, 2012-13), but the medical drama series was unfortunately short-lived; Gummer appeared in Steven Soderbergh's "Side Effects" (2013) the same year "Emily Owens" ended. She and Walker also divorced amicably in 2013. Gummer played Julie in the David Foster Wallace biopic "The End of the Tour" (2015) and made another appearance opposite her mother in Jonathan Demme's "Ricki and the Flash" (2015), this time playing the daughter of Streep's character. Gummer starred in "Ugly Lies the Bone" on stage in 2015, receiving a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Play. In 2018, she returned to the Nancy Crozier character for "The Good Wife" spin-off "The Good Fight" (CBS, 2017-) and became engaged to producer Mehar Sethi. The couple announced in December 2018 that they were expecting their first child. Gummer starred in the third season of the critically acclaimed anthology drama series "True Detective" (HBO, 2014-) in 2019.
