Mabel King
With a legacy of laughter-inducing roles, Mabel King was known for her rich movie career. Known for making audiences laugh, King began her acting career in comedies like "Don't Play Us Cheap" (1972) with Esther Rolle and "The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars and Motor Kings" (1976) with Billy Dee Williams and James Earl Jones. She worked in series television while getting her start in acting, including a part on "What's Happening!" (ABC, 1975-79). She continued to act in productions like the musical "The Wiz" (1978) with Diana Ross, "The Jerk" (1979) with Steve Martin and the comedy "The Gong Show Movie" (1980) with Chuck Barris. She also appeared in "Getting Over" (1981). She also was featured in the TV movie "The Jerk, Too" (NBC, 1983-84). King last acted in the Elliott Gould comedy "Dead Men Don't Die" (1991). King passed away in November 1999 at the age of 67.
