Lowell Sherman
Prominment Broadway actor who made his film debut in D.W. Griffith's "Way Down East" (1920) and went on to portray slick ladies' men and lascivious villains in a score of silent films. Sherman exploited his knack for comedy and bedroom politics when he began directing in the early 1930s. He died during the shooting of "Becky Sharp" (1935), which Rouben Mamoulian completed from scratch. Married to actresses Evelyn Booth, Pauline Garon and Helene Costello.
