Jane and Fabian are not on the same page when it comes to their relationship, which makes it hard for Jane to ask him for a favor. Petra and Rafael both turn to Jane for advice, but Jane is determined not to get involved. Meanwhile, Jane volunteers to help Xo and Rogelio, but might have bitten off more than she can chew.

Jane (Gina Rodriguez) takes on additional shifts at the Marbella to make some extra money, but it starts cutting into her time with Mateo. Jane and Rafael (Justin Baldoni) agree that they need a formal custody agreement and decide to use a mediator to help make it more amicable. Xo (Andrea Navedo) takes an acting role on Rogelio’s (Jaime Camil) telenovela and they are both surprised with her performance. Michael (Brett Dier) gets called into his boss’ office after a newspaper runs a story on him and Sin Rostro. Meanwhile, Petra (Yael Grobglas) confronts Rafael when she learns that the twins’ trust fund is different from Jane’s arrangement. Ivonne Coll also stars.

The Villanueva women have a tradition for Mother's Day and Jane (Gina Rodriguez) is excited to get to participate in her first one as a mom. However, their plans are thwarted when Petra (Yael Grobglas) invites everyone to a brunch instead. Jane's TA position is put into jeopardy when a mysterious ad appears in the college newspaper. Rogelio (Jaime Camil) is hurt when Dina (guest star Judy Reyes) doesn't invite him to her birthday party, so he asks Jane to help in an unusual way. Rafael (Justin Baldoni) finds himself in big trouble thanks to his half-brother. Meanwhile, Xo finds herself in a compromising position. Ivonne Coll and Brett Dier also star.

With Jane (Gina Rodriguez) and Xo (Andrea Navedo) still dealing with the fallout from Jane's bachelorette party, Jane is now left with finding someone to watch Mateo. When Michael (Brett Dier) volunteers to help everything is perfect until Mateo does something for the first time in front of Rafael (Justin Baldoni), upsetting him. Rogelio (Jaime Camil) gets in trouble with the network executives when he uses the crew for his own use, so he turns to his favorite writer Dina (guest star Judy Reyes) to help fix the problem. Meanwhile, someone is causing problems for Petra (Yael Grobglas) at the Marbella and in her personal life. Ivonne Coll also stars.

Sadie interviews Billy's ex-classmates hoping to find information about a key piece of evidence. Also, she defends Elena Garcia, her childhood best friend, in a probation violation case; Cameron is asked on a date by her former classmate, Peter; Albert's unpredictable father, Tyson, comes to visit; and Isaiah faces off in court against Ivan Sturgill, his former law partner and current rival. Lawrence Pressman, Mercedes Mason, Ben Lawson, and Carl Lumbly guest star.
