Lawrence Gordon Clark

Lawrence Gordon Clark, a British television director and producer, launched his extensive career by adapting the short ghost stories of M.R. James--starting with "The Stalls of Barchester" in 1971--for the BBC. Clark's work became a staple of holiday BBC programming and was broadcast annually through 1977. His direction of "A Ghost Story for Christmas" was well received by critics, who also praised the cast's performances. In 1979 Clark directed four episodes of "Flambards," a Yorkshire Television series set in turn-of-the-century England about a young girl who is orphaned and goes to live with her uncle at the family's country estate. He worked on a few other projects for Yorkshire Television before returning to the BBC to direct several episodes of "Pie in the Sky," a lighthearted police drama starring Richard Griffiths. Clark has since worked regularly as a director on numerous TV series, including "An Independent Man" and "Dangerfield," a series about a small-town family practitioner and police surgeon. From 2002 to 2003, he directed three episodes of the long-running BBC One series "Casualty," a medical procedural following the lives of doctors, nurses, patients, and insurance agents in the hectic Accident and Emergency department of Holby City Hospital.
