Michael (Golden Globe winner Steve Carell) is surprisingly cheerful after learning some bad news about Donna (guest star Amy Pietz). The new parents, Pam (Jenna Fischer) and Jim (John Krasinski), have trouble staying awake in the office. Meanwhile, Angela (Angela Kinsey) takes matters into her own hands when Dwight (Rainn Wilson) refuses to honor their contract. Ed Helms, Leslie David Baker, Brian Baumgartner, Kate Flannery, Mindy Kaling, Phyllis Smith, Oscar Nunez, Creed Bratton, B.J. Novak, Ellie Kemper, Paul Lieberstein and Craig Robinson also star.

When an undercover cop in Baltimore involved in a mob investigation goes missing, the BAU believes a serial killer rather than organized crime has something to do with his disappearance. The probe leads to several unsolved missing persons cases.

House has relented in regard to interviewing potential team members, but he’s doing it his own way. He has called in all 40 applicants for the open spots on his team (including guest stars Olivia Wilde, Kal Penn, Peter Jacobson, Anne Dudek and Edi Gathegi), each numbered individually by runners’ bibs, and puts them to the test in a Darwinian trial period. As he drills the fellows and arbitrarily fires some along the way, he is approached by a fighter pilot named Greta, a candidate for NASA’s astronaut training program. Greta suffers from a neurological disorder in which she is converting visual images to sound, or hearing with her eyes. Knowing that NASA would reject any possibility of her becoming an astronaut if they knew of her problem, Greta begs House to treat her in secret. Keeping her identity private, House takes the case to his fellowship candidates and pits them against one another to come up with an accurate diagnosis. Meanwhile, House is ruffled when he thinks he sees Cameron, Chase and Foreman in the hospital hallways.

Cristina is unanimously picked by the attendings for the first solo surgery, but is unable to do so due to her punishment from the Chief; Bailey tries to help Mark rebuild the voice box in a woman who has not been able to speak in 5 years.

Turk takes J.D. up to surgery, and right from the start J.D. steps all over Turk when trying not to be the geek among the surgeons. Paul hears Elliot say "I love U2" while she was rearranging her CDs and thinks she said "I love you too." Dr. Cox decides to get even with Dr. Kelso by telling everyone he's dead, revealing what people really think of him.
