Running
A successful photographer's model hits the skids and shatters Starsky's boy-hood illusions in "Running." An alcoholic woman fends off an attacker and becomes the only living person who can identify a notorious murderer. Knowing the killer will return, her neighbors urge her to contact police. But she refuses, not wishing to call attention to herself. The killer murders a "fence" and Starsky finds an identifiable brooch in the dead man's hand. The piece of jewelry recalls the name of Ella, a girl he loved from afar in his high school woodshop class. When the killer makes a second attempt on Ella's life, Starsky and Hutch respond to the call, and recognize her immediately. Starsky risks his badge by taking her to his apartment to "dry out" and put the pieces of her life together. Ella hostilely resists Starsky's efforts to help her. Their fights become so ferocious that both temporarily forget the killer is moving closer.
