Kristoffer Joner

One of the most popular and highly esteemed Norwegian character actors, Kristoffer Joner began his performing career the way many Norwegian actors do: by enrolling in the prestigious Rogaland Theatre's program for children. Fresh out of school in the mid-'90s, Joner joined the cast of "Offshore," a drama series about the lives of oil rig employees and the corruption surrounding drilling contracts. He landed his debut film role in Pål Jackman's 2000 dramedy "Detector," which tells the story of a man who stumbles upon a mysterious jewel while tinkering with his metal detector. Joner earned a Best Actor Amanda Award nomination for his portrayal of Jørgen, a performance that led to countless projects throughout the 2000s. Among his most significant turns are the role of Lasse in the 2003 survival horror film "Dark Woods," in which a reality TV cast discovers murder and mystery while filming in the woods; "Mongoland," starring Pia Tjelta as a woman searching for her missing boyfriend (Joner); and "Falling Sky," which earned Joner the Golden Swan Award for Best Actor at the Copenhagen International Film Festival. In the latter half of the 2000s, he starred in the psychological thriller "Next Door" and took home his first Amanda Award for Best Actor after many nominations. After starring alongside Stellan Skarsgård in the lauded 2010 drama "King of Devil's Island," Joner gave perhaps the most powerful performance of his career as a father with a deathgrip on his son in 2012's "Kompani Orheim."
