Kristi Yamaguchi
An Olympic Gold medalist and World Champion, Kristi Yamaguchi was one of the most popular and successful figure skaters of the latter twentieth century. Since winning gold at the 1992 Winter Olympics, Yamaguchi retired from competitive skating, choosing instead to perform in numerous television specials and travel the globe on the beloved "Stars on Ice" tour. Along with her many awards and accomplishments, she was a member of the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame, World Figure Skating Hall of Fame and the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame. In 1996, she founded the Always Dream Foundation dedicated to fundraising and supporting children's charities. Married to Stanley Cup champion and Carolina Hurricanes hockey star Bret Hedican, as well as the mother of two daughters, Yamaguchi decided to join season six of the popular dance competition, "Dancing with the Stars" (ABC, 2005-), to prove she had all the right moves even without benefit of skates.
